From frost to rain – and a coffee that saved the day

With the rain forecasted from midday, I pulled an early start to gain as much ground as possible. Shortly after 6am I was on my way, heading towards Newark. The first miles were going ok, but soon I recognised that the bagel I had eaten the night before wasn’t enough. After the first 60k I finally managed to find a Lidl, to get one of those lovely drink yoghurts and some much needed energy. Here the rsin kicked in as well, and unfortunately I had too much too eat. Arriving in Bourne, a lovely market town (altough all towns here are market towns) I finally felt better, with Peterborogh next to cross. Navigating through Peterborough again reminded me why I try to stay clear of big towns. Fortunately I was saved by a lovely couple pointing me in  the right direction, even tough the only way out was a dual carriageway. After 125k I pulled in for a coffee, which suddenly boostec my motivation. With again some nice big ups from strangers I pushed on, making it to Royston as night fell. With the lights in I made to Bishop’s Stortford, and now the difficult part was finding a place to stay. I tried five B&B unsuccessfully, I honestly think they couldn’t be bothered, a shame compared to the great help I got from locals. Finally found myself a rather expensive room, but after 219k in those atrocious conditions I was in for a treat!
