Inspiring people – Shannon Galpin
With a new outfit for the blog comes the commitment from my side to share more stories here, my own and other’s. Short and simple, as I am mostly out riding bikes and taking pictures. With that intention in mind, I just came across Shannon Galpin’s story. She is encouraging women to ride bikes in Afghanistan, after becoming the first women to ride a mountain bike there. I haven’t met Shannon, neither can I verify if she really was the first woman to cycle there, but her story is amazing, and shows that cycling can push change, even in countries constantly portrayed as one of the most dangerous in the world. I would love to ride in those mountains one day, to find out more about Shannon, go Mountain2Mountain’s website and most importantly, take a few minutes to watch this video, you won’t regret it. And if you want to find out more about Afghan Cycles, a feature long story in the making about the brave Afghan women who risk their life and challenge gender barriers for the simple joy of riding a bike, please go here
