Route Race Touring to Germany 2010

This is the final route for my recent adventure on the road bike (Avanti Giro 2008). It was a big time trial, as I covered all those distances on my own, unsupported and with just the bare minimals when it comes to equipment. I stayed with friends and family overnight and mostly shopped in random supermarkets on the road for some food, more details about the equipment & bike can be found here.

Day One: Edinburgh – North Shields 200km (overnight ferry to the start in Ijmuiden the next day with DFDS Seaways)
Day Two: Ijmuiden – Lingen ca. 270km (thanks to Hardy for the bed)
Day Three: Lingen – Hamburg ca. 270km (last bit by train, as the Elbbrücken are closed to cyclists, thanks to Grit for bed and the wonderful Franzbrötchen)
Day Four: Hamburg – Bad Wilsnack 200km (then with train to Berlin to stay there overnight, thanks to Jan and Susan for cheering me up and the bed)
Day Five: Bad Wilsnack – Rackwitz (near Leipzig) 265km (back from Berlin by train to starting point, with train to Leipzig at night, thanks to Denise for beer and bed)
Day Six: Rackwitz – Erfurt – Ilmenau 195km (thanks to my sister Anja & family for a final pit stop, and the Pension Börner for a wonderful couch)
Day Seven (half day): Ilmenau – Engelsbach 90km (thanks to Bertram for the final beer, and my whole family for a warm welcome and barbecue)
Day Eight (half day): Engelsbach – Schwobfeld 85km (thanks to my cousin Angela for the final pit stop and my mum and dad & all relatives for another final with tears, happy tears)

Total distance cycled: 1575km (estimated, as my computer yet again could not cope with the extreme weather on day two and three), average speed between 25.2 km/h on the slowest and 30.7 km/h on the fastest day
